I took this shot on the "Steam Donkey" trail off of Highway 26 in Oregon's Clatsop State Forest..
At the top of the stump at right, you may see the hole for the boards that the loggers used to stand on as they hand-sawed the tree (see photo below)
The logging operations ceased (I believe) in the 1930's. There was a huge fire in these woods in '33 (three subsequent fires burned in 1939 through '51).
This hike has the remains of a "steam donkey" sled used in the logging operation to haul felled trees.
